Social Chess Pop-up Proposal

About GOODKNIGHT SOCIAL

GOODKNIGHT SOCIAL is a new Detroit-based social chess club built around making chess more social, accessible, and engaging. Our events combine casual chess with music, nightlife, and community, creating an environment where experienced players and complete beginners can sit down and play together.

The Idea for Dally

I’d love to bring a GOODKNIGHT SOCIAL chess pop-up to Dally in the Alley. The setup would give festival attendees a place to sit down, play a quick game, meet other people, and take a break from moving between stages and vendors.

Setup & Space

The activation can be scaled depending on the space Dally has available. Ideally, I’d like approximately 20' × 20', although a 10' × 20' space could also work with a more compact setup.

I would provide the chess boards, pieces, and everything necessary to operate.

What I Would Need From Dally

• A designated space within the festival for the pop-up.
• If available, tables and chairs — high-top tables would also work very well for quick games and standing spectators, they also blend into the natural flow of foot-traffic since they don’t require chairs.

• If Dally does not have tables or chairs available, I can provide all necessary tables and seating myself.
• Coordination on placement, setup time, and any other festival requirements.

Why It Fits Dally

Chess gives people something interactive to do, rather than simply another booth to walk past. Games naturally bring strangers together, attract spectators, and create a social gathering point. I think GOODKNIGHT SOCIAL’s community-oriented approach would fit naturally with the creative, local atmosphere of Dally in the Alley.
